  • 2 small Potato - each cut into four pieces (optional)
  • 2 Onion - thinly sliced
  • 1 Tomato - finely Chopped
  • 2 Green Chilly - mid-slited
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • Salt
  • 2 tsp Red Chilly Powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Pepper Powder
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Sugar
  • 2 Cardamoms
  • 5 Cloves
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • Around 1 cup Water
  • Mustard oil for cooking

Recipe Details :

✓ Clean the crabs properly removing the unwanted parts and the outer shell. With the help of a brush, clean the mud if any.

✓ Take those in a bowl and add some hot water mixed with turmeric powder. Keep like this for around 10 mins and then throw the water.

✓ To the crab, now add salt, sugar, half of the red chilly powder, half of the turmeric powder, Pepper Powder, half of the cumin powder and half of the coriander powder. Add potato pieces and 1 tbsp Mustard Oil. Mix everything well and marinate for around 30 mins.

✓ Heat 2-3 tbsp oil in a kadai. Once the oil is hot, Add cardamom, Cloves and cinnamon stick. Mix and saute for few seconds.

✓ Add the sliced onions and cook for 1-2 mins in medium flame until Onion becomes light brown.

✓ Add ginger garlic paste. Mix and cook for 2-3 mins more till the raw smell is gone.

✓ Add Tomatoes. Cover and cook for around 3 mins in low medium flame till tomatoes become soft and mushy.

✓ Add salt as per taste (note that we have already marinated the Crab with salt), rest of the red chilly powder, turmeric powder, Cumin Powder and Coriander Powder. Mix well. Add 3 tbsp water and cook for around 5 mins in low flame.

✓ Add the Marinated crab and potato now. Mix everything, cover and cook in medium flame for 5 mins.

✓ Stir again, cover and cook. Repeat the same process for around 10 mins, i.e. cook in low medium flame for around 10 mins by stirring in between. Cook till all water from crab is evaporated.

✓ Add half cup water, let it come to boil. Then keep the flame low and cook for around 10 mins more till the gravy becomes thicker and dark brown in color. Adjust the gravy consistency here.

✓ Add Garam Masala, give it a stir and switch off the flame. Crab Curry is ready to serve hot with a bowl of steam rice.
