Tomato Charu is the nickname to what people usually call "Tomato Rasam". This soupy and tangy dish is one of the favorites of many in my hometown. This recipe is prepared in different ways, accordingly color, texture and taste varies.
"Tomato Charu" is the first choice replacement of Dal at my home. Just pair it up with hot steam rice and any veggies fry, that's going to be a complete soul-satisfying meal.
Winter is the season of Desi Tomatoes. With the addition of ginger, garlic, peppercorns and various other spices, hot Tomato Charu is a great cure for cold. Tomato is light on stomach and adds to digestion. So this recipe goes very well for everyday meal, also can be stored for 2-3 days and consume.

Ingredients :
- 5 Tomatoes (use red, juicy Desi ones for better taste)
- 2 glass Water
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1/2 tsp PepperCorn
- 1 tsp Coriander Seeds
- 2-3 inch Ginger
- 4-5 Garlic cloves
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 3 Red Chilly
- 3 Green Chilly
- A pinch of aesofoetida
- 1 twig Curry Leaves
- Some Coriander Leaves
- 1 tsp Tamarind pulp mixed with water
- Salt
- 2 tsp Red Chilly Powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 2 tsp Oil
Recipe Details :
✓ In a pan, take the tomatoes and water. Cover and cook for around 10 mins in high flame till tomato becomes soft and mushy.
✓ Turn off the flame and let it cool down. Transfer the tomato along with water to a blender jar. Blend well.
✓ Coarsely grind Cumin seeds, Pepper corn, ginger, garlic cloves and some coriander leaves.
✓ In another pan, heat 2 tbsp oil. Add aesofoetida, mustard seeds, green chilli, red chilly, curry leaves and the coarsely grind masala paste made in above step. Fry for few mins.
✓ Add the blended tomato juice. Also add the Tamarind water.
✓ To this, add salt, red chilly powder, Turmeric powder.
✓ Boil for 5 mins more.
✓ Add some chopped Coriander Leaves and mix well. Tomato Rasam is ready to serve hot with hot steam rice and some fry.
