Chicken Momo with Momo Chutney

"Momo" - the name itself is enough to salivate, isn't it ?? 😉 This is one of the most favorite snacks among youngsters these days, easily available everywhere, from roadside stalls to star restaurants.

Believed to be a popular main course in China and Tibbat, Momo gives a different and good food variety. This is known to be a healthier snacks as the chicken here is boiled, not fried and very less/no oil is used to prepare this delicious delicacy.

For a Non-Veg lover, the Chicken Momo stands ahead of the Vegetable Momo and along with the spicy garlic Tomato Chutney, it gives a feeling that's hard to express 😋😋 The juicy soft tender chicken filling steamed inside a flour covering is never boring to munch on.

It was a winter evening and we wanted to have something hot yet not heavy. I found some boneless chicken pieces lying in fridge. Then the thought came, why not prepare some Chicken Momos!!! Though the overall Momo Preparation is same, The inside fillings can be customized as per your like.

The recipe I am going to share is the easiest of all with plain and simple minced chicken and few more other ingredients available in kitchen (my husband loves it this way) along with the Momo Chutney.
Please share your comments on how did you like the recipe..

  • 4-5 Garlic Cloves
  • Salt
  • 1 tsp Tomato Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Soya Sauce
  • 1 tsp Vinegar
  • A pinch of Sugar

Recipe Details :

✓ Let's start with making the dough. Take All Purpose Flour, salt and oil in a big bowl and mix well. Then keep adding little by little water and start kneading it to make a soft and firm dough. Apply some oil to the dough, knead once again and let the dough stay covered for some more time to make it more soft and spongy.

✓ Take the boneless chicken pieces in a bowl. Add salt, pepper Powder, Ginger Garlic Paste to it and mix them Well. Keep aside, covered for 10-15 mins.

✓ Now in a Kadai, add 1 tsp of oil. Shallow fry the chicken pieces until they become tender and 70% cooked.

✓ Switch off the flame, take the chicken pieces out of kadai and add in a mixer grinder jar. Grind it Coarsely. If you like completely keema chicken as my husband does, you can grind is completely. But don't add any water at all.

✓ Please note you can use raw minced chicken also, but I like it this way so that the raw taste of chicken is completely gone.

✓ Take the chicken now out of grinder and transfer to a bowl. To this chicken, add salt, pepper Powder, onion, green chilly, Soya Sauce and coriander leaves. Add 1 tbsp oil and mix well to make a tasty Filling.
✓ Now from the dough, make very small balls. Roll then to make thin and flat rounds of dough.

✓ Add the Chicken filling in center and give it a shape as per your choice (could be a round shape/shell shape size/ Modak shape). Do the same for all the dough balls.

✓ In a steamer, boil water. Grease the Momo plate with oil and place the raw Momos made in the above step.

✓ Keep the Momo plate inside steamer. Cover it and cook for around 15 mins. You can keep checking in between and cook for some more or less time as it needs based on the thickness of the Momos.

✓ Chicken Momo is ready to serve hot with Chutney and Mayonnaise.

Momo Chutney Preparation:

✓ Take the Tomatoes and red chilly. Cook in Microwave for 5 mins and Remove the skin of tomatoes.

✓ To a Blender jar, add boiled Tomatoes, red chilly, garlic cloves, salt, Soya sauce, tomato Ketchup, vinegar and sugar. Blend it to make a soft and semi-thick Chutney.
